Join Us

Joining the community of the Unitarian Congregation of West Chester is not difficult. There is no creed you must swear to.  We only ask your support for our common purpose, your commitment to this community, and your willingness to share some of your journey as we walk our many pathways of the spirit.

The UU Values

Love is the power that holds Unitarian Universalists together and is at the center of our shared values. The values we share include all the following, which we hold as inseparable and deeply interconnected:

  • Interdependence: We honor the interdependent web of all existence and acknowledge our place in it.
  • Pluralism: We are all sacred beings, diverse in culture, experience, and theology.
  • Justice: We work to be diverse multicultural Beloved Communities where all feel welcome and can thrive.
  • Transformation: A living tradition adapts to changing world and supports individuals in their growth and the deepening
    of their understanding
  • Generosity: We cultivate a spirit of gratitude and hope.
  • Equity: We declare that every person is inherently worthy and has the right to flourish with dignity, love, and compassion.

Learn About Unitarian Universalism

Before you commit yourself to our congregation, we hope you will learn more about our principles and purposes through reading, worship services, classes, and discussions with members, the Membership Committee, and our minister, Rev. Dan Schatz. We suggest the following:

Explorations
Explorations is a series of small group sessions designed for new and long time Unitarian Universalists alike. Sessions include Our Spiritual Backgrounds, the UU Values, UU Inspirations, What Do I Believe, and How Shall I Live. It is a wonderful way to learn about Unitarian Universalism by practicing it with a small group of people.

Unitarian Universalist History and Theologies
Twice a year our Minister teaches a one session course which examines our UU liberal theological tradition throughout our history. This class is a great chance to hear some of the classic stories about religion.

Path to Membership Classes
If you decide to look into membership in our congregation, we invite newcomers to join us in our Path to Membership class held several times a year.

Signing the Book
To talk about joining our congregation, contact our minister, Rev. Dan Schatz. Joining a Unitarian Universalist congregation means you sign a book that records our members’ names. Periodically we welcome our new members in a special Sunday service.
