Cassie Lengel is a passionate supporter of Liberal Religious Education.

She writes:

“It is not enough to have faith without understanding, and education without love is poorly implemented, instead we must raise up each other up to responsible belief and generous love.”

Cassie comes to the challenge of religious education with a bachelor’s degree in Biblical and Religious Studies from Messiah College as well as time focusing on Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis University; she also has a myriad of experiences as a religious teacher, tutor, research assistant, and church secretary. Her most recent position has been as the Director of Religious Education at the Unitarian Universalist Congregational Society of Westborough (MA), where she found the culmination of her journey to bridge rigorous learning and spirituality as a religious educator.

Cassie combines her academic interests with her love for religion to translate each side’s strengths into an integrated approach to faith that is rooted in where people are at right now and where they can grow to be in the future. Where her academia meets with her compassion and love for people, Cassie works to facilitate personal growth in learning and spirituality. Basically, she wants to help people make their faith their own!

“One of the most important things I’ve discovered on my journey, however, is that this bridge cannot only be a mental stride between the head and heart, but must extend to one’s hands as well. Love is not a soft, mushy feeling, but it is active and fighting for what is right for self, neighbor, community, and world until we can truly desire for the other what we would want for ourselves.”

Cassie invites you on a journey with her to delve into deeper thought, support one another with greater love, and work hard for justice to create what will truly be the Beloved Community.
