Metaphors — Makers of Meaning

Metaphor: a figure of speech that identifies something as being the same as some unrelated thing. How can this word from the Greek for “transference” make meaning in our lives? Metaphors are found in dreams and fairy tales, literature and religion, psychotherapy and art. Dr. Seuss and Carl Jung both became famous for their creative understanding and use of metaphors. In her talk, Rev. Ellen will share some insight into how these sometimes simple statements became an integral part of our common language that help us convey feelings, descriptions, or situations and make sense out of complex concepts found in life, love, and spiritual matters. She invites you to bring and share a meaningful metaphor that assisted you some time in your life. Rev. Ellen Schipul is an interfaith minister and is a licensed professional counselor with a private practice in Lionville/Exton.
