April 14, 2024(1 event) 10:00 am – 11:00 am Not Just Another Woman Behind the Scenes: The Helpmeet Lessons of Anna Murray Douglasstonya thames-taylor.
In-person & Live-stream. The illiteracy of abolitionist Anna Murray Douglass is weaponized against her. She proved to be a savvy small business owner and was instrumental in sustaining the career of social reformer Frederick Douglass, her husband of 44 years. How do we tell the story of the unsung and not tell a hero’s narrative? What can such a life tell us about fostering space when resources are limited, obstacles are formidable, and the end result does not include fanfare or understanding of one’s work? In April 2022, Dr. tonya thames taylor, an Associate Professor of American History, was recognized as one of West Chester University's 150 Most Influential Women. At WCU, she is the founding director of the African American Studies program, interim director of Rustin Urban Community Change AxiS (RUCCAS), and a member of the Frederick Douglass Institute (FDI)'s Executive Board. She serves on several boards including People's Hall and Kennett Underground Railroad Center (KURC). She is member of Fallowfield Friends Meeting (Quakers) in Coatesville. UCWC |

April 18, 2024(2 events) 6:00 pm – 7:15 pm The Chimes Choir will play while the Intergen choir sings with us on May 5 on Music Sunday. I am in the process of arranging the music. The piece is "Let there be peace on earth." On May 5 we will practice prior to the service sometime between 9 and 9:30. Other groups need to practice so we will wait to hear when our exact call time is that day.
We will practice this Thursday April 18 from 6:00-7:15.
Then we have a week off.
We will practice Thursday May 2 from 6:15-7:45. Spirit singers will join us at 7:30 so we can practice with them for 15 minutes. We will probably have a break from 7:20-7:30 when the choir is arriving. We should be able to leave the tables up and chimes out after this practice.
We will practice prior to the service on May 5 at a time to be determined.
Please confirm your availability in the next couple of days. If you are a first time chimer-no worries. We love new members and will show you how to do it!
One tricky thing about chime choir is that we need all the people present (or subs) in order to practice effectively. It is particularly important to be present at our rehearsal Thurs May 2 when we put it together with the singers.
Debbie Sisco has offered to be the assistant director for the chimes choir. She may reach out to you for follow up. if you want to arrive early to help set the tables, stands, binders and chimes on a Thursday eve you can contact her. Her email is dsisco17@gmail.com and her cell is 610-316-8094.
