I have been a fan of Holly Near for over forty years. But I didn’t know that she was a lot more than a singer songwriter. We will examine her life and learn more about her including her social justice work. Come prepared to sing and learn.

There was a song a long time ago by Gary Lewis and the Playboys called I Will See You In September. One of the lines is “Have a good time, but remember, there is danger in the summer moon above. I will see you in September, or lose you to a Summer love.” The Summer has passed. There have been many distractions. Now we are in an in between space, about to enter into the Autumn season. As the Taoist say, “In summer things grow, in the Autumn we gather the things that we need to last through the hard winter.” How do we gather the things that we need from an alluring, but turbulent summer, not only to keep us secure through the coming winter, but also alive, vibrant and free?

Drawn by the vision of what can be, we continue our quest to grow, love, and serve together. This service will include our annual Blessing of the Backpacks. All who attend, and especially school aged children and youth, are invited to bring their backpacks or other bags with them to the service. (For those who don’t bring bags, we can bless “virtual backpacks.”)

She lives with her partner, their beloved puppy, Rumi and their adorable cat, Nix in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia.
Universalism has been present in Christianity since its inception, but universal salvation has not always been the prevailing view, nor has it meant the same thing at all times in Universalist and UU history. Let us explore universal holiness as a spiritual condition open to us all.
Rev. Keith Goheen has served as chaplain at Beebe Healthcare is Lewes, Delaware, for 18 years. He has been in ministerial fellowship with the UUA since 1999 and is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Mill Creek.
