UU Spirit Play is founded on Montessori educational principles and based in story and ritual, play, and creativity. Spirit Play gives children the tools to make meaning of their lives within Unitarian Universalism, and the tools to carry them forward into living an active spiritual life. The classroom becomes a place for children to explore their spirituality and gives them the time and the language to talk about it.
Following a story and “wondering questions” there is an opportunity for creating art or drama — allowing children to make their own meaning of the story they’ve just heard, or one from a previous class. We’ll include stories that reflect our Unitarian Universalist Principles and Sources, as well as stories of The Mystery, Beginnings and Endings, Sacred Places, and UU Heroes and Heroines.
